Herkimer: Robert A. (Bob) Campagna, 67, a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at his home. Born in Herkimer on April 21, 1947, Bob was the son of the late Tullio and Celia (Dandino) Campagna. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School Class of 1965. He furthered his education by attending and graduating from SUNY Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. On October 23, 1976 he married the former Mary Ellen Atkins at St. Anthony’s Church in Herkimer sharing 33 years of unconditional love and happiness until her passing on September 30, 2010. Bob, being proud of his heritage, had a passion for cooking Italian food and pursued a career as a chef. He owned and operated Campagna’s Restaurant, was the head chef for The Mohawk Station in the late 80’s and was last employed as the chef for the Sojourn House in Schenectady. He was also known and admired for his baking talents and blessed with a “green thumb”, he spent many hours tending to his vegetable garden. In his spare time, he loved golfing, basketball, football and fishing. He is survived by his sons, Shawn and Nick Campagna of Mohawk, Patrick Fiato and wife Carrie of Greensburg, PA, Richard Fiato and wife Julie of Michigan, and Alex Fiato of California; his daughter, Kim Fiato and her significant other, Yvonne Winters of Mohawk; his brothers, Gino Campagna and wife Sue and David Campagna all of Herkimer; 8 grandchildren; a great- grandchild; in-laws, Dave and Loretta Atkins of Herkimer; 2 nephews and several cousins. His funeral arrangements have been planned with The Enea Family Funeral Home, (F.K.A. Holleran Funeral Service) 220 NORTH WASHINGTON STREET, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011 under the direction of Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea. SALISBURY CENTER – Mrs. Irma B. Krawec, age 87, of Salisbury Center, NY, died Monday April 6, 2015 at the Folts Home in Herkimer, NY. Irma was born on April 18, 1927 in Monroe, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Thomas and Evvie (Burchell) McGowen. Her marriage to Stephen Krawec took place in Dolgeville on August 29, 1952. They nearly celebrated 50 years of marriage until the passing of Mr. Krawec on March 9, 2002. Irma worked with the Daniel Green Company of Dolgeville for over 40 years. She along with her husband were very active with crafts through the years, and Irma loved to garden. She cherished all of the wonderful moments spent with her grandkids as well. Survivors include her son Scott Krawec of Salisbury Center, five grandchildren, Tessie Maxwell, Nicole Krawec, and Jennifer Krawec – Hill, Melanie Smith, and Stephanie Dickens, five great – grandchildren, her siblings, Jo Dumas and James McGowen, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband and son, Gary. Her funeral arrangements are with Brian A. Roberts of the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 East Faville Avenue, Dolgeville, NY. (315) 429-3144. ILION – Mr. John Michael “Mike” Purcell, age 67, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Ilion on March 27, 1948, Mike was the son of the late John O. Purcell and Anne (Stagg) Purcell Tiel. He also knew the love and support of his stepfather, William Tiel. He attended Ilion schools and was a graduate of Ilion High School. Upon completion of his schooling, Mike went to work and spent the majority of his career as an auto mechanic, most recently with Orion Bus Industries in Oriskany. He also worked for a time alongside his stepfather as a member of a survey team. Mike was a man dedicated to his Catholic faith. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion and a former member of the Pastoral Council. He involved himself in his community through his membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 1444 and was a past member of the United Auto Workers. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of the NY Yankees. Mike is survived by his sister, Marianne Shepherd Lee and her husband, Francis Lee of Sauquoit, and his family; his brother, Timothy J. Purcell and his wife, Lynne, of Alta Loma, CA; his nephews, Daniel J. Purcell, of CA, Sean Shepherd and Blythe Huestis, of Scottsdale, AZ, Ryan Shepherd and his wife, Nicole, of Buffalo, and Thomas Shepherd and his wife, Bree of Chandler, AZ; his great-niece, Taylor Shepherd; and his great-nephews, Sawyer Shepherd and Keane Shepherd. He also leaves his stepfather, William S. “Bill” Tiel, of Oneonta; his stepsisters, Lynne Stone and her husband, John, and Mary Thuma and her husband, David; his aunts, H. Elizabeth Stagg, of Syracuse, and Rita Morrison, of Florida; along with numerous cousins in New York, New Jersey and Florida, with special mention of Lori Geise and her husband, Thomas, and Jayne Stagg, all of Ilion, and William Stagg, of Frankfort. It would be remiss not to mention Mike’s long time friend, Tom Farnham, of NC, and all of his “Buds” at J.D.’s Lounge in Ilion. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Thomas R. Shepherd, II, and a special cousin, Lindsay Stagg. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Mike’s funeral service, which will be held at 8:30AM, Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened home at 102 West St., Ilion, and at 9:30AM from the Church of the Annunciation, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening, April 17, 2015, from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the funeral home at 102 West St., Ilion. Members of the Ilion Elks Lodge 1444 will conduct their ritualistic service at 5:45 from the funeral home. Interment will take place later in the spring at Armory Hill Cemetery. DOLGEVILLE – Mr. Lloyd J. Dineen, Jr. age 62, of Dolgeville, NY and most recently a resident of the St. Johnsville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, died on Tuesday morning April 14, 2015 at Little Falls Hospital of natural causes. He was born August 8, 1952 in Little Falls, son of Edith (LeFave) Dineen and the late Lloyd J. Dineen, Sr. He received his education at St. Mary’s Academy in Little Falls and went on to graduate from Dolgeville Central School. Lloyd offered many years of dedicated service as a meat cutter and store manager of local Big M’s (Foodland) stores, particularly in Dolgeville, St. Johnsville and Frankfort. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Survivors include his devoted family, his mother Edith of Dolgeville, his children, Melissa Cool and her husband Tom of Stratford and Chris Dineen and his wife Sandi of West Seneca, NY, his grandson, Michael Cool and granddaughter Kassie Matteson, his sister Trudy Hadcock and husband Harold of Webster, NY, a brother Richard Dineen and his wife Robin of Fort Plain, NY, uncles, Tref LeFave and his wife Sylvia of Chadwicks, NY, and uncle, James Dineen, Sr., of Salisbury, his aunt, Margaret DeCarr of Utica, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Lloyd Sr., and his twin brother, Lawrence “Larry” Dineen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 18, 2015 at 10:30 AM from The Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 East Faville Avenue in Dolgeville, and at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, North Helmer Avenue in Dolgeville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. ST. JOHNSVILLE – Christine E. (Aney) Dager, age 61, who was currently residing with her daughter Laura in Scotia, NY, passed away on Wednesday morning April 15, 2015 at Albany Medical Center. She was born on December 27, 1953 in Ilion, NY a daughter of Gordon and Katherine (Hazzard) Aney. She graduated from Owen D. Young Central School. Christine worked at Lexington Center in Oppenheim as a personal care assistant. She had also worked with the visiting nurse association. Christine was an advocate for breast cancer and was devoted to the cause. She enjoyed the relay for life, having participated in Dolgeville and Johnstown. She was a 13 year member of the Johnstown Women of the Moose, and had great fun with the Johnstown bowling league. She loved crafts and to crochet and knit. Her children fondly look back upon fishing and camping with her and how she would always anticipate the BBQ and bonfire! She was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her beloved family, children, Nicholas Dager, of Oppenheim, Craig Dager and Kristie Mowers, of Dolgeville, Laura Dager and Dominick Barbalace, of Scotia, NY, and Wade Smith and Danielle Edelman Geurtze, of Scotia, NY; her grandchildren Justin Dager, Tyler Harpis, Destinee Bennett, Serena Dager, Connor Dager, Cameron Dager, and Caydon Dager, her siblings, Robert, Edward and Glen Aney and Jean New and several nieces, nephews and cousins. FORT PLAIN - John J. Nadalin, 72, of River Rd. passed away peacefully with family by his side April 12, 2015 following a long, courageous, inspiring battle with cancer. Predeceased by his soul mate and beloved wife Kathy (Sellick) Nadalin, brother Michael Nadalin, and parents John and Helen Nadalin, he is survived by his niece Jessica Nadalin and loving friends. Born July 6, 1942 and raised in Astoria, NY, John met and fell in love at first sight with Kathy while both studying at Pratt Institute. They married July 1, 1968. John went on to become a successful architect designing and building many homes and apartment buildings across New York City and Staten Island, some alongside his brother Michael. John and Kathy then moved to reside in Woodstock, NY for many years where John had a small farm and Kathy continued her artistic career. They then enjoyed their yacht and explored the inlets along the east coast down south to Florida and up the Hudson and Hohawk Valley as far west as St. Johnsville, NY where they retired to a home built by John himself outside of Fort Plain, NY. John was a devout Christian with many passions including traveling, hobby farming, animals, architecture, and politics. He was extremely talented, intelligent, and driven. He could, or convince friends, to do anything he put his mind to. He cared deeply for his family and friends, was a caregiver to his loved ones, and a dedicated husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed and his legacy will live on in all the lives he touched. His funeral arrangements are with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville, NY. ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mr. Philip J. Terricola, age 86, a lifelong resident of St. Johnsville, NY passed away on Friday evening April 17, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, NY. Phil was born on September 22, 1928 in St. Johnsville, the son of the late Graziano and Romilda (Giovampietro) Terricola. Phil was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart of 64 years, the former Josephine “Josie” Palma, on June 4, 1950 at the St. Patricks’s Catholic Church, St. Johnsville with Fr. Scully officiating. Phil graduated from St. Johnsville High School in 1947 after being crowned king to Josie’s queen at the Senior Prom. Phil was accepted at Hartwick College on a baseball scholarship and was recruited by the Brown’s professional baseball team, along with his best friend, Dominick Fontana. Phil was an accomplished baseball and basketball player. “Flyin’ Phil” proved to be one of the great sharpshooters of the Mohawk Valley semi-pro basketball team. Phil was the first baseball player to hit a homerun under the lights at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park in St. Johnsville. Phil was an avid golfer, bowler, dancer, and snowmobiler. After he retired, they purchased their first RV and spent many years travelling to Florida, Maine, and Pennsylvania. In 1984, his granddaughter, Wendy, was born and became the apple of his eye. He enjoyed dancing with Wendy at her wedding last year. Phil enjoyed being with his family and socializing with old friends as well as new friends he met along his journey through life. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Josie, his daughters, Phyllis Johnson and her husband Don of Little Falls and Linda Terricola of Amsterdam, his granddaughter, Wendy McGrath and her husband Jason of Arlington, Virginia, his sister – in – law, Lena Terricola of St. Johnsville, his niece Connie Terricola of St. Johnsville and a nephew Terry Terricola of Florida and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Constantine “C.J.” and Terrenzio Terricola and his brother – in – law, John “Buttsy” Palma. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 32 West Main Street in St. Johnsville where his Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Rafal Dadello. Interment will follow at the family plot in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Phil’s name to the Catholic Church in St. Johnsville or to St. Johnsville Ambulance. HERKIMER: Mrs. Shirley Spanfelner, a longtime Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, New Hartford with the love and support of her family by her side. Born in Tupper Lake, NY on October 19, 1930, Shirley was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Rita (LaVine) Moose. Raised and educated locally, she was a Herkimer High School graduate and often reminisced her role as a drum majorette. On May 19, 1951 she was married to Merrill Spanfelner at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, by Rev. Anthony Crucetti; a 63 year union built on love, support and mutual respect. Shirley’s greatest joy was caring for her family and her home. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the center of her heart and they motivated her soul. In her earlier years she enjoyed being at the family camp on 7th Lake boating and water skiing. Summertime fun around the pool with her family was special. Her artistic talents were displayed through her flair for interior decorating, gardening and landscaping at her home. At one time she was a volunteer at Herkimer Hospital and a former member of the Columbiettes. Shirley enjoyed antiques and formerly owned and operated The New & Old Trading Post. She was a part-time certified nurse aid at The Folts Home in Herkimer. She is survived by her husband, Merrill; her children and significant others, Deborah Sykes (Tito Ruiz) of Marcy, Gary Spanfelner (Patricia DeCarr) of Herkimer and Rebecca Spanfelner (Scott Prenoveau) of Plattsburgh; her cherished grandchildren, Tricia DeCarr, Mary, Heather and Samantha Spanfelner all of Herkimer; great-grandsons, James and Leonardo; in-laws James and Joseph Spanfelner and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Beverly Russell. While at the Presbyterian Home she enjoyed meeting other residents and their families. Interment will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.
