Salisbury
Mrs. Justine Polivka, 101, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the alpine Rehabilitation & Nursing center, where she had been a resident since 2010.
She was born in Slovenia and raised in Forest City, Pa. She married John Polivka on June 2, 1945. They lived most of their married life in their home on Rt29 until his passing on April 26, 1995. She was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Janet Ann, in 1949, and a sister Rose Jenko, in 1988.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat and her husband Don VanDerwerker of Palatine Bridge. Several Nieces and nephews also survive, along with some special friends.
At her request, there will be no services. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Her daughter and husband extend a Special Thank you to the staff at Alpine who saw to her care and comfort these many years.

Stella A. Oleszek
HERKIMER: Stella A. Oleszek, 97, of E. Albany Street, Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Folts Home, Herkimer.
Born in Herkimer on October 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Katherine (Drapalski) Orcheski. Raised and educated locally, she attended Herkimer Schools. She married Harry Oleszek at Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church who predeceased her. During her working years, Stella was employed as an assembler for UNIVAC in Utica, NY. Stella was an honest person and found great satisfaction and joy in the love of all of her family, holding a special bond with her sister, Nellie. In her leisure time, she loved to play bingo and visit the casino. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church of Little Falls.
She is survived by her sister, Nellie Crandall of Herkimer; nieces and nephews, Francis (Butch) Crandall and wife Joan of Ilion, Garre Crandall and wife Jennifer of Herkimer, Phil Pankow, Jr., Conrad, Michael and Fredericka Orcheski, a sister-in-law, Jennie Bednarski and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Olga Pankow and a brother, Martin Orcheski.

Everett Rockwell
STRATFORD - Mr. Everett James Rockwell, age 66, of 599 Piseco Road, Stratford, NY ‘fell asleep in death’ on Saturday evening May 2nd, 2015 at his residence, with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Little Falls, NY on August 4, 1948 the son of Everett B. and Edna C. (McGowan) Rockwell and was a graduate of Stratford School.
His marriage to the former Debra A. McGowan took place on September 20, 1986 in the Methodist Church in St. Johnsville, NY. Their love for each other was evident by the almost 29 years of marriage they shared.
Everett was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Dolgeville and personally enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Everett was a 20 year employee of the North Hudson Woodcraft Company of Dolgeville as a Kiln operator. He retired 2011.
A Veteran of the Vietnam War he served honorably in the United States Army with Co. A 1st Bn30th Infantry and was discharged with the rank of Sgt. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was an expert with the M-14 rifle.
He is survived by his wife Debra, a son Aaron Rockwell of Salisbury, his daughters, Kimberly and her husband Tony D’Arcangelis of Oneida, Jill Viscusie and her companion Pete Summa of Rome, Amanda and her husband J.R. Sevier of Maryland, Kayla Rockwell and her companion Matthew of Ilion, his grandchildren Shae, Ty, Syerra, Hailey, Isaiah, Chloe, Hannah and Lilli, his brother Brian and his wife Pat Rockwell of Stratford, his sisters Dawn and her husband Earl Youker of Stratford, Norma and her husband Charles Turner of Oklahoma, Shirley and her husband Donald Vedder of Stratford, his in laws Ed McGowan, Pete and Miya McGowan, Mark and Jennifer McGowan, Kelly and Stacey Sponable.
He was predeceased by his father Everett and his mother, Edna, as well as his brother, Bruce.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 4-6 PM, at the Kingdom Hall on Brockett Road Dolgeville and attend the service at 6PM. Lee Millington will be giving the memorial talk.

Paul A. Lowell
MOHAWK: Paul A. Lowell, 60, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare with his loving family by his side.
Born in Herkimer, NY on June 19, 1954, he was the son of the late George and Nellie (Preston) Lowell, Sr. He was raised and educated locally and on September 2, 1989, he married the former Mary Jo Varin sharing a 25 year union. Paul was employed for North Hudson Woodcraft of Dolgeville.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jo; his son, Erik Lowell and wife Kelly of Mohawk, his daughter, Paula Anna and husband Ken of Poland; his cherished grandchildren, Aiden Neil Lowell and Kendra Anna; a brother, Ron Lowell and wife Barb of Ilion; sisters, Claudia Lowell of Ilion, Linda Franklin and husband Russ of Newport and Sharon Ackerman and husband Dean of Rome. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Donny Varin, Jr., several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, George “Butch” Lowell, Jr., and a sister, Gloria Fogerty.

Louise M. Moretti
HERKIMER: Mrs. Louise M. (LaVallo) Moretti, 98, a lifelong resident of Herkimer, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY.
Born in Herkimer, NY on April 5, 1917 she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Ann Marie (Fierro) LaVallo. On January 5, 1939, she was united in marriage to Patrick A. Moretti at St. Anthony's Church. They shared a union of 40 years as he predeceased her in December 1979. Louise was a homemaker and a remarkably strong, peace loving women, who preferred to see the best in everyone. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother whose family's health and well being were of the utmost concern to her and she was happiest when surrounded by family and preparing family dinners. Louise enjoyed watching TV game shows and sporting events. She loved taking daily walks, gardening and loved occasional trips to various casinos. Louise was a loyal member of Herkimer Senior Citizens.
Surviving are her beloved daughter, Teresa & special son-in-law Bob, with whom she resided for 36 years and her loving son, Patrick; her cherished grandchildren, Dana(John) Swierkos of Penfield, NY, Kristin(Bob) Miller of Orchard Park, NY, Scott(Kara) Sherry of Parker, Colorado, Meryl(Jeff) Berger of Bristol, Indiana and Whitley(Clay) Boyd of Orange Park, Florida; her precious great-grandchildren Alexandria and Wesley Miller, Hayden, Samuel, and Carleigh Sherry, Hudson and Jackson Boyd to whom she was affectionately known as "Grandma Lou." She is also survived by her sister, Frances Russo of California; her sisters-in-law, Mary LaVallo, of Vero Beach, Florida, Doris LaVallo of Herkimer, NY, Mary Byron of Liberty, NY; Theresa Moretti of Little Falls, NY and Philomena Moretti of Herkimer, NY, as well as many fond nieces and nephews.
Louise was predeceased by her sister, Rosie Sanganetti and brothers, Angelo, Alessio, Attilio, and Anthony LaVallo.
Family and friends are invited to attend Louise’s Funeral Mass on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, with Father Leo Potvin, officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. There will be no public calling hours. MOHAWK – Rita B. Brown, age 91, formerly of Warren Rd., Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2015, at Little Falls Hospital.

Helen DeRidder
Mrs. Helen J. (Darling) DeRidder, 94 of the Hopson Road (Town of Salisbury), entered into eternal rest on May 4, 2015 at Little Falls Hospital.
She was born in Brookfield, NY, the daughter of the late Rev. Marshall and Gertrude (Hoxsie) Darling. She was educated in schools throughout the New England states.
Helen was a homemaker and had been employed by the McLaughlin Department store in Dolgeville.
Family was very important to her and she enjoyed attending all of their activities. Her hobbies included decorating, painting, and sewing.
Survivors include her four children Norma and her husband Ronald Lincourt Sr. of Sarasota, Fl., Judith and her husband Renford Scheuerman of Gloversville, Jack Shults and his companion Alice Comstock of Dolgeville, Greg Shults of Gloversville, a Step daughter Joanne (Shults) Grinnell of Glens Falls, NY, her eight grandchildren Karla (Robert) Cagwin, Heather (Alan) Babiaz, Mark (Lorrie) Scheuerman, Ronald Lincourt Jr. , Lorraine (Mark) Gifford, Norma Scheuerman, Thomas Shults and his fiancée Christine Burdick, and Douglas Shults, Nine Great Grandchildren, two great great grandsons, several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Jackson Shults and Cornelius DeRidder, also her brother, Birge Darling, her sisters, Hope Thompson, Mary Marshall, Ella Delaney, Rebekah Luther, Deborah Youker, Jean and Joan Darling, two step daughters, Jacqueline (Shults) Coffin and Judy Shults.
A PRIVATE graveside service at the Salisbury Rural Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family, with Rev. Gertrude Ortlieb, officiating.

Wayne B. King
FORT PLAIN – Mr. Wayne B. King, age 81, of 32 Division Street, Fort Plain, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, May 4, 2015 at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Wayne was born on August 22, 1933 in Pennsylvania. His marriage to Rita Swank took place on February 20, 1972. Wayne was of the Catholic Faith, and at one time worked on the Nellis Farm.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife Rita of 43 years. His children John W. King and Elvis P. King. He also leaves behind John Swank of Burlington Flatts, Earl Swank of Ft. Plain, Ed & Judy Aker of Ft. Plain, and Ruby Craver of Ft. Plain. Wayne also leaves a special friend Manley Baker of Ft. Plain, several cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
Wayne is predeceased by his In- Law Barb Stowell of Canajoharie, and his daughter in-law Betty of St. Johnsville.
Calling hours for Wayne will take place on Friday May 8, from 6-8pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville, NY. His funeral will commence on Saturday Morning May 9th at 11am from the funeral home with Rev. Rodney P. Rickard offering prayers. Michael T. Maddaloni, Sr.
Little Falls – Michael T. Maddaloni Sr., age 78, of 755 E. Monroe St, Little Falls NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 6, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.
Michael was born on May 4, 1937 in Little Falls. Michael is the son of the late Michael & Marion (Smith) Maddaloni. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School class of 1955, and a graduate of Mohawk Valley Tech Institute with an Associate’s Degree in 1958. After graduating Michael taught Algebra Mathematics to struggling students until his retirement in 1973. After retiring from teaching Michael worked for the Daniel Green Company in the Maintenance department.
Michael was happily married to Norma Grace (Hubbard) from Brooklyn for 17 years until the time of her passing. At one time, Michael attended the First Assembly of God Church on Jefferson Street.
Michael is survived by his loving children, his daughter Sharon Lynn Hinson, and his sons, Michael T. Maddaloni, Jr., and James R. Maddoloni.
In keeping with Mr. Maddaloni’s wishes there are NO PUBLIC SERVICES. He will be laid to rest next to his parents in St. Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Anne Marie Harris Haughton
OLD FORGE - Anne Marie Harris Haughton, 85, of Palm Coast, Florida, and Old Forge, New York, died on March 23rd in Jacksonville Beach, where she was receiving rehabilitation treatment at a skilled nursing facility following hospital care. Anne was born on March 14, 1930 to Walter and Camilla Harris in Buffalo, NY. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in Rochester, NY. Before her marriage to Robert J. Haughton on June 14, 1952, Anne worked for Rochester Telephone Company. She was a member of Santa Maria del Mar Church in Flagler Beach, FL and St. Anthony's Church in Inlet, NY. Anne enjoyed reading, walks by the ocean, and being in the mountains. Anne was devoted to her dear family, the center of her life, and she was deeply loved by all of them. Anne is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Robert J. Haughton, children, Katherine Haughton Morgan (FL), Camille Haughton (CT), Michael (Kathleen) Haughton (CT) , James (Roseanne) Haughton (CT), Matthew (Lisa) Haughton (CT), and Mary (Peter) Schuchman (PA), ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, and loving family members across the country. She was pre-deceased by her parents and her sisters, M.M. Joyce Harris and Mary C. Duncan. Memorial donations may be made to Covenant House (covenanthouse.org).

Ruth E. Smith
ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mrs. Ruth E. Smith, age 82, of Mill Road in St. Johnsville, NY, passed away following a courageous battle on Monday morning May 11, 2015 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY. The family is so very appreciative of Bassett with special mention to the ICU and SCU departments.
She was born on September 10, 1932 in Little Falls, NY a daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Trumbull) Richards and was educated in St. Johnsville schools. Her marriage to James H. Smith took place on July 12, 1952 in St. Johnsville, a loving union of 54 years. Mr. Smith passed away April 29, 2007. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville. Ruth was an excellent caregiver in the field of childcare to many wonderful children for over 50 years in the St. Johnsville area. At one time she had worked at Daniel Green Shoe Corporation in Dolgeville as well as the Corso Dress Factory in St. Johnsville. Ruth enjoyed latch – hooking and word – find puzzles.
Survivors include her children, Keith Smith and wife Patricia of Kingman, Arizona, Carol Warn and husband Gary of St. Johnsville, Roger Smith and friend Marylou Sweet of Arizona, & Gail Kane of Palatine Bridge, her brother, Harris Richards of Sharon Springs, NY, six grandchildren, Bryon Smith and wife Kathy, Mike Warn, Jennifer Wolfkiel and her husband Scott, Kevin Kane and his wife Lisa, Jeremy Kane & Matt Kane and his friend Emma, four great grandchildren, Wyatt & Keith Smith and Skylar and Matt Kane, Jr. and several nieces & nephews and a sister – in – law, Veronica Richards of Dolgeville. She was predeceased by her son – in – law Kevin P. Kane who passed away on January 13, 2013 and her brothers Howard, Harold and Eugene Richards and a sister Alice Crawford.

Gordon R. Disotelle
ILION: Gordon R. Disotelle, 76, a long-time Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Folts Home, Herkimer with the love and support of his family.
Born in Ilion, NY on May 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Raymond and Laura (Peters) Disotelle. Raised and educated in Ilion and Malone, Gordon was an Ilion High School graduate and honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. On July 13, 1963 he was united in marriage to the former Florence Volo at Annunciation Church, Ilion.
During his employment years, Gordon worked as a technician for Univac, was a supervisor at PAR Technology in New Hartford and was a manager at one time for the Ilion Elks Lodge. He was a fan of the New York Yankees, an avid golfer, and was a handyman, enjoying painting and wall papering as a side job. He was a member of the Ilion Elks Lodge and Annunciation Parish of Ilion.
He is survived by his wife Florence, his son, Michael Disotelle of Mohawk; his daughter, Shelly Disotelle of Columbia, MD; his sisters, Shirley LaValley and husband Bernie of East Herkimer, Esther Viparina , and Linda Edick and husband Allen all of Ilion. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mildred Volo of Mohawk; in-laws, Elaine and Jim LaPietra, Brian Volo, Bill Volo, Patty Volo and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to acknowledge Hospice and the staff of the Folts Home for the care and compassion given to Gordon during his time spent there.

Lucy Brown
LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Lucy A. Brown, age 92, a longtime resident of King Street in Little Falls, passed away on Friday May 15, 2015 at the Alpine Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Little Falls.
She was born on February 14, 1923 in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Anthony & Mary (Pietrafesa) Pasquale and was educated in Little Falls schools. She was married to Joseph Brown who passed away in 1968. Lucy was last employed with Little Falls Felt Shoe in St. Johnsville.
Lucy was a lifelong and active resident of the City of Little Falls. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish and was a former member of the Rock City Senior Citizens. She was a past president of the DeCarlo – Staffo Aux. In 2009 Lucy was honored as ‘Senior Citizen of the Year,’ and most recently on May 14th of this year was honored as Little Falls WCA ‘Woman of Distinction.’ This was a very special event. Her personal interests were inclusive to reading and ceramics, and she was a fan of the New York Yankees.
She is survived by her many nieces and nephews including Barry Smith (Jean), Christina Davis (Ginnie), Debra Davis Thorsland (Mica), E.J. Davis, and Roy Calafrancesco (Sandy), and many great nieces and nephews, including Qunitin & Mitchell Smith, Abby & Reece Thorsland, and Nic Ivancic, and her sister – in – law, Doris Pasquale.
Lucy was predeceased by her sisters, Carmella Calafrancesco and Mary Smith, and her brothers Salvadore (Phil), Emilio, Rocco, and Mike Pasquale.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street in Little Falls, with Deacon Joseph DeLorenzo, officiating. Interment will follow the memorial service at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. There are no calling hours. Donations in memory of Lucy may be considered to the Little Falls Food Pantry.

Santo "Sam" Pileggi
FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER – Santo “Sam” Pileggi, age 80, of Country Meadows Dr., Schuyler, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer, with his wife and family by his side.
He was born on May 8, 1935, in Ilion, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Falcone) Pileggi. Sam graduated from Frankfort Schuyler Central School in 1954 and attended Utica College. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Army. On July 1, 1979, Sam married Ruth (Treen) Schafer in Frankfort. Mr. Pileggi was employed as a quality product manager at General Electric Co., Utica, for Thirty-five years, retiring in 1991. He was also a consultant at ICC. Sam served as Board President of the former Ilion Hospital and was assessor for the Town of Frankfort. He enjoyed his summers at White Lake and his winters in Florida. Sam also enjoyed golfing, woodworking and winning at the Turning Stone Casino.
Surviving family members include his loving wife, Ruth; his children, Linda Smith and her husband, Gary, of Frankfort, Stephen Pileggi and his wife, Nadine, of Wilmington, NC, Helen Todoro and her husband, Joe, of Glenfield, NY, Lori Nicolette and her husband, Doug, of Ilion, and Robert Schafer; twelve grandchildren, Courtney Ireland, Sarah Smith, Justin Smith, Lee Pileggi, Corey Pileggi, Krishel Pileggi, Melissa Kinney, Sara Carter, Jennifer Waldron, Jill McKissick, Amy Hayner and Brandon Nicolette; his brothers, Joseph Pileggi, Jr. and his wife, Marrietta, of Herkimer; his sister, Rosemarie Servello and her husband, Sam, of Frankfort; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry Treen and his wife, Eileen, of Boonville, Richard Treen and his wife, Marie, of Herkimer, Cora Mauro, of Long Island, Lizzie Hight and her husband, Gordy, of Frankfort, and Helen Licari and her husband, Jerry, of Frankfort; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened home at 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Tom Pileggi, of the Calvary Gospel Church of New York Mills, officiating.

Anita A. (Bellen) Smith
ST. JOHNSVILLE – Anita A. (Bellen) Smith, age 90, a longtime and well – known and loved resident of St. Johnsville, NY, passed away peacefully yet suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, May 20, 2015 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY.
Anita A. Bellen was the eldest child of Joseph and Bessie (Borden) Bellen. She was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1924 at home. A 1942 graduate of Canajoharie High School, she excelled academically. During World War II she entered the Government Cadet Nurse Training Program and attended Russell Sage and Albany Medical Center Nursing Programs.
In 1947 she married Frederick J. Smith, a St. Johnsville, NY businessman. They owned Smith’s Market until 1973. They then purchased the former Caponera Liquor Store until Fred’s retirement. Fred passed in 1988.
Anita was appointed Montgomery County Historian in 1977 and held several offices in the New York State County Historians Association, and was nominated President of State Historians in 1981.
She became the first Director of Development and Community Relations for Little Falls Hospital, established the departments’ policies, computerization of records, and was a professional grant writer and successful fund raiser for the hospital.
In 1991 she was appointed the Village of St. Johnsville Historian. Soon after, she was appointed the Town of St. Johnsville Historian. She was a sought after historian from all over the country for information on Mohawk Valley History and genealogical historian.
Anita was a published author of historical books, pamphlets, magazine, and newspaper articles. Several of her books are still available on Amazon.
She was a member and Trustee of the Fort Klock Historic Restoration, a founding member and trustee of the Palatine Settlement organization at Nellis Tavern and was always concerned with historic preservation. At Fort Klock she portrayed the school teacher in their 1825 one room school and enjoyed teaching children of all ages about local history. She used the theme, “Leaving a Legacy,” and presented programs to local school children. She prepared history notebooks for the St. Johnsville School libraries.
Historic Architecture was of great interest to Anita. She successfully prepared many National Register of Historic Places forms for Montgomery County Sites. She taught 137 workshops on how to date a house, historical architecture styles, landmark preservation, and the preparation of building structure inventory forms, and National Register criteria information.
Several honors came from her involvement in local areas of community service. In 1980 she was Co-Director of the Lake Placid Olympic Torch run through Montgomery County and received a bronze medal for her efforts. In 2003 she was named Heritage Hero for Montgomery County. She was honored to be Grand Marshall at the St. Johnsville Springfest parade. She was a member of the Grace Christian Church of St. Johnsville.
Anita was born into a close-knit family and she carried on that tradition with her siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and all of her husband’s family. She held large Christmas parties and BBQ’s in July for years. She thought that the children should know their extended family, and through that her family has grown to act like siblings, whether they were or not. She was pleased that the second and third generations continue to do these close knit parties to this day. Anita was the true Matriarch and leader of the family.
Anita is survived by her sisters, Regina Doris Gee, and Diana (Grayson) Swartz, her sister – in – law, Catherine Bellen, and her step – son Donald W. (Laurie) Smith. She loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own children. They include: Janet Bellen, Patricia (Mark) Leonhardt, Joseph Bellen, Douglas (Cyndi) Gee, Marsha McGowan, Gina (Tom) Scheck, Danny (Renee) Gee, Lynn (Jeffrey) Crandall, John (Debbie) Dockerty, David (Debra) Dockerty, Melissa (Tom) Caponera, Darren Bellen, Mark (Rebecca) Trombetta, Michael Trombetta, Melanie Swartz, Matthew Swartz, Denise (Carl) Rockefeller, Anita Sue (John) Nichols, Cindy (David) Fitzgibbons, David Richards, a step-grandson Eric Smith, and many great and great – great nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Bessie, her husband, Fred, her step – mother, Rose Bellen, her brothers Joseph and Donald Bellen, and her sister Patricia Bellen Dockerty.
A memorial Celebration of the Life of Anita Smith will be held 2:00 P.M., Sunday, JULY 26, 2015 at the Grace Christian Church, 20 Center Street, St. Johnsville, NY. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that in lieu of floral offerings, donations in memory of Anita may be considered to either the Fort Klock Historical Restoration or the Margaret Reaney Memorial Library of St. Johnsville.

Ronald "Ron" D. Abeling
ILION-UTICA - Ronald “Ron” D. Abeling, age 71, of Utica, formerly of Ilion, passed away peacefully and went home to Jesus on Saturday, May 23, 2015, after a long illness.
He was born on June 6, 1943, in Ilion, the son of Inman and Florence (Moore) Abeling, and graduated from Ilion High School in 1962. On September 18, 1969, he was married to Ruth Angle in Ilion. She died on August 7, 1999. He later married Zoraida Garcia in Utica. Ron was employed as a machinist at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1989. He was a former member of the Ilion Elks Lodge #1444.
Surviving family members include his wife, Zoraida; his sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Jacky Abeling, of Ilion, and Roy Abeling; three sisters and brothers-in law, Karen and Thomas Cooper, of Savannah, GA, Janice and James Hall, of Lawton, OK, and Beverly and Jim Hutchinson, of Scio, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife; his parents; his brothers, Roy Abeling and Dennis Abeling; and his sister, Thelma Saj.
