Inglis, Florida/Frankfort, NY: We are announcing the services of Michael T. Putch, Sr., 57, who passed away on June 5, 2013 at his home under the care of his loving family and Hospice of Levi County. Michael was born in Herkimer Memorial Hospital. He was educated in Frankfort Schuyler Central Schools. Following graduation, he married his childhood sweetheart Karen D. Painter on October 18, 1975 at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort, NY. Michael was self-employed having received licenses in both waste water and fresh water treatment from the University of Sacramento in California.
Michael was predeceased by his mother, Rose M. Putch. Michael is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen; his father Joseph J. (Barbara) Putch Jr. and his children Rebecca (JD) Davis of Crawfordville, Florida; Michelle D. Putch of Inglis, Florida; Jessica A. (Trevor) Taranto of Barnegat, NJ; Michael C. (Tiffany) Putch Jr. of Inglis, Florida; brother Joseph A. (Kathy) Putch III of Fort Myers, Florida; sister Judy Ann (Timothy) Carter of Lake Worth, Florida; Grandchildren, Jonathan Cody & Katie Davis, Nicholas and Michael Putch, III. Michael is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

LITTLE FALLS: Josephine Ostasz, 84, a longtime Little Falls resident, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Little Falls Hospital with the love and support of her family.
Born in Frankfort, NY on May 22, 1929, Josephine was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Elizabeth (Guarniere) Marchese. She was educated in Frankfort Schools and on February 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Walter Ostasz at St. Mary’s Church, Frankfort; the couple sharing 64 years of love and mutual respect.
Josephine worked for many years as a seamstress for P&K Dress Factory in Little Falls and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU). As a loving and very family oriented wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she enjoyed a special bond with her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones and they will cherish all of the special ways she showed her love for them. At one time, Josephine enjoyed bowling, playing cards with her family, taking bus trips to the casino and was a faithful fan of the New York Yankees.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Walter; her son, Walter Ostasz, Jr. and his special significant other, Laura Stallman of Little Falls; her daughter, Anna Bailey and husband Richard of Little Falls; her cherished grandchildren, Sarah Chandler and husband Chris, Walter J. Ostasz, Kayla Grace Ostasz, Erin Bailey-Smith and husband James and Patrick Bailey; her great grandchildren, Isabella, Elijah, Gabriella, and Abigail Chandler, Bailee Smith; a brother, Sam and wife Nadine Marchese of Little Falls; her sisters, Florence Quatrino of Little Falls and Liz and husband Jere Donovan of North Carolina; an aunt, Rose Guarniere of Frankfort and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Frank Marchese and her sisters, Mary Stefaniak, Jenny Dowhaniak and Rosalie Derkay.

Jeffery Allan Wadsworth Jr. 34 of 121 Kelly Road Stratford, died Monday July 22nd, 2013 at Bassett Medical Center Cooperstown, after a brief illness.
His own testomony was: “I accepted Jesus as my Savior in my teen years. I believed that Jesus died on the cross for my sins. He rose from the dead, and one day I will too. Now I am with my Lord Jesus in Heaven because I Believed in his Holy Name. Now I know my family, dad, mom and my sister will see me again it’s because we are all firm believers that there is life after death and that we will all be together for eternity.

Jeff was born in Little Falls, NY on January 25, 1979. He is the son of Sharon (Pollard) Gray and Sam Gray with whom he lived. Jeff attended Dolgeville Elementary school and then was home schooled.
He was of the Baptist Faith and personally enjoyed playing his guitar, of which he was self taught. His ability in playing also enabled him to teach other children how to play the guitar. He enjoyed singing both in church and along with playing his guitar.
He is survived by his parents Sam and Sharon Gray, his sisters Kristen and Jessica, several Aunts, Uncles, & Cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1PM at the Lighthouse Baptist Church on Rt 29 A in Stratford. Pastor Don Hagen of Solid Rock Baptist Church and Pastor Gene Horn of Mohawk Missionary Baptist Church will be officiating. Friends and family may call at Noon at the church and attend the services at 1PM. Burial will follow in Salisbury Rural Cemetery.

Christian Michael Varin
Christian Michael Varin, 19, of Holland Patent, was called to the Lord, on Friday, July 26, 2013, as the result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
He was born on August 14, 1993 in Utica, the son of Donald J. Varin and Kimberly Sterling DeMetro. Christian started his education in Mt. Markham Central School District later graduating from Holland Patent High School, Class of 2012. He continued his education and was attending class at MVCC.
Christian was employed with Dunkin Donuts in Barneveld. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ilion, where Pastor Andy referred to him as “Chicken Little.” Christian was a very active strong young man. He enjoyed being a crew member along with his family for DeMetro Racing. Christian loved every moment fishing any where’s with his Dad and hunting with his second Dad, John with whom he got his first deer. He was an avid wrestler and baseball player for Mt. Markham and then Holland Patent. He also liked going bowling. Christian was a huge Mets fans.”Let’s Go Mets.” Christian cherished spending time with his grandfather and taking care of him. Any chance he would get, Christian would tease his Poppie.
Christian always had a smile on his face. His loving and caring demeanor was always unbreakable. Christian had the most kind and old soul, and never had a moment where he was not a gentleman. His infectious smile would always cheer anyone if they were down and he constantly would go out of his way for any of his family and friends. Christian was with us a brief time but the everlasting impression he left was one of greatness and kindness. His life touched everyone who came to know him. Even though he is gone, Christian will forever be held in the hearts and memories of his dear family and friends.
He is survived by his Dad, Donald J. Varin of E. Herkimer; his Mother and Dad, Kimberly and John DeMetro of Holland Patent; his maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and William Sterling of Ilion; his siblings, Sarah and Matthew Boisen of Rome, Andrew Varin of Holland Patent, John and Agatha DeMetro of N. Branford, CT, Kristopher DeMetro of Syracuse and Kyle DeMetro of Holland Patent; his girlfriend, His Little Honey Bee, Morgan Chandler Rudwall of Ilion; his niece and nephews, Sawyer Boisen and Madison Boisen of Rome and John DeMetro, III of Branford, CT; his special cousin, Barbara Noble of Keller, TX; his several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. HERKIMER: Raffaeline “Dolly” Piper, 89, a lifelong Herkimer resident passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer.
Born in Herkimer on February 17, 1924, Dolly was the daughter of the late George and Raffaela (Servadio) Alfano. Raised and educated locally, she was a 1942 graduate of Herkimer High School. On August 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Piper with whom she shared a loving marriage of 45 years until his passing on October 4, 1997.
Dolly worked for many years for Hennessey Food Company in Ilion as an Office Manager and also worked at General Electric in Utica. Although she worked outside of the home, providing for her family at home was the source of strength and comfort to her. She sacrificed as a loving mother and was an adored grandmother. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones and they will cherish all the special ways she showed her love for them. Dolly was a member of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church, Herkimer.
She is survived by her sons, Robert G. Piper of Kentucky, George J. Piper of Herkimer and Carl J. Piper and wife Torrie of California; a daughter, Jean Marie Rosenthal and husband Stuart of New Jersey; her cherished grandchildren, Danielle, Alicia and Andrew Rosenthal, Alexander, Matthew and Christopher Piper; a sister in law, Millie Piper of Mohawk and several cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Alfano.

MOHAWK: Don G. "Zimmie" Zimmerman, of Cleveland, TN., formerly of Mohawk, NY, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Don was at home and had his loving family by his side.
He was born on November 19, 1944 in Binghamton, NY, the son of the late Mary Ludlow and Cecil (Carl) Zimmerman. Don attended Mohawk Central School, Class of 1962. On January 18, 1975 he was joined in marriage to Margaret V. Rose. After 31 years as a Union Steward at Chicago Pneumatic he retired. After his retirement, he opened Zimmie's Cycle in Mohawk, NY. He later relocated to Cleveland, TN to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He always looked forward to riding the motorcycle he has owned since 1981, and visiting Daytona Bike Week. His friends would say that he was a very wise man and mentor. Don will always be remembered as a well-respected and faithful Harley Davidson enthusiast who always quoted, "Ride it Like You Stole It."
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Marge; his children, Don and wife Anne of MN, Keith Paul of TN, Kimberly Zimmerman of AL and Kristen Zimmerman of TN. He also leaves 13 cherished grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his sister, Charlotte Price and husband John of Mohawk, NY and brother, Carl (Buddy) Zimmerman of FL.
In keeping with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. ILION: Jacqueline V. “Jackie Primmar, 84, a long time Ilion resident passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.
Born in Utica, NY on January 10, 1929, Jackie was the daughter of the late Moise and Mary Agnes (Vandermark Beebe) DeLude. Raised and educated locally, she was a 1947 graduate of Mohawk High School. A proud veteran, Jackie honorably served her country with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. On November 17, 1962 she married Charles Primmar at Annunciation Church in Ilion, sharing 50 years of unconditional love and cherishing one another.
Jackie was a member of the Ilion American Legion Post 920 and the Ilion VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Along with her easy going manner, she was a woman with a quick wit and a tactful sense of humor. Jackie was a kind, gentle, loving soul who offered her heart and guidance to her neighbors, the neighborhood children and her loved ones. She loved to challenge her mind with cross word puzzles, Sudoku, was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting dolls. She brought much joy to those who knew her and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; her daughters, Joan Primmar of Ilion, Julie Puckett and husband Kevin of North Carolina; her beloved grandchildren, Sean Reed and Alex Broneske, a sister, Kim DeLude of Syracuse; in-laws, Angie Strail, Rose Doxtater, Richard Primmar, Gloria and James Watts; a special cousin, Joan Kinsinger; special friends, Rhonda and Jason LaPorte; her beloved feline friend, Pumpkin and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Joan DeLude and brothers, William “Sonny” DeLude and Arthur “Micky” Strail.

ILION – Beatrice “Bea” M. Bruso, age 76, formerly of 279 Second St., Ilion, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013, after a long illness, with her family by her side.
She was born on January 2, 1937, in Ilion, the daughter of Harold and Mildred (Bartlett) Strait and graduated from Ilion High School. On January 15, 1955, she was married to William L. Bruso, Jr. in Ilion. She worked with her husband in his W.B. Locksmith business since 1968. She was a member of the Ilion Baptist Church, Ilion American Legion Post 920 Auxiliary and the Ilion-Frankfort VFW Post 502 Auxiliary. Bea was past president of the Ilion William H. Hempstead VFW Auxiliary, past president of the Herkimer Co. VFW Auxiliary and past matron of the Ilion Beth El Chapter OES. She was also founder, charter member and first president of AMVETS Auxiliary Post 777.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; her daughters, Nancy Anton and her husband, Bill, of Herkimer, Mary Rende and her companion, Tim Pope, with whom Bea resided recently in Ilion, Beverly Wood, Kim Bruso and her companion, Ann, all of Ilion; six grandchildren, James Rende and his wife, Andrea, Anthony Rende, Jessica Lamb, Jerrica Norris, Dana Norris, Jr. and Erica Norris and her fiance, Tim Johnson; twelve great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Renae, Faith, Jaide, and Hope Rende, Jarrod Price, Ethan Congdon, Madison Lamb, Jenna, Cameron and Ariel Norris, and Lucas Johnson; one great-great-granddaughter, Madelyn; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and Pat Foster, who has been like a daughter to Bea. She was predeceased by her parents and her great-granddaughter, Clover Ann Norris.

HERKIMER: Eleanor I. Carswell, 83, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Masonic Care Community with the love and support of her family.
Eleanor was born was born in Herkimer, NY on September 3, 1929, the daughter of the late John H. and Irene (Sprague) Smith. Raised and educated locally, she was a 1946 graduate of Herkimer High School. On June 30, 1951 she married Walter D. Carswell at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer, with whom she shared 48 years of happiness and unconditional love before his passing on January 6, 2000.
Eleanor was the owner and operator of Eleanor & Kandy’s Dance Studio, Mohawk Street, Herkimer and the Chriseleanor School of Dance in Herkimer. She always had a passion for teaching and dancing and taught dance to all age groups up and down the valley. She attended dance instruction schools in New York, Washington, D.C. and Chicago, becoming certified to teach dance workshops at HCCC and special needs students at Herkimer Boces and she adored working with the children. Eleanor was a member of the Daughter of the Nile and Easter Star.
Eleanor is survived by her beloved family; her sons, Mark Carswell and wife Claire of Sarasota, FL, Matthew Carswell and wife Kim of Canastota, John Carswell and wife Lisa of Herkimer, Luke Carswell and wife Beth of Syracuse; her beloved grandchildren, Mark, Nicole, Krista, Matthew, Ryan, Jessica, Samantha, Caitlin and Matthew; a great grandson, Forrest; her in-laws, Pat Smith, Mary Crandall, Helen and Renny Abrams, Anne and Dan Moller and Lois and Joe Cassillo; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Michael “Mike” Jodway 73 of 197 Piseco Road Stratford, died Tuesday afternoon August 13, 2013 at his residence after an extended illness. His family was at his side offering their love and support at the time of his passing.
Mike was born in Santa Clara, New York on August 22, 1939 the son of the late Edgar and Alfreda (Susie) Jodway and attended Little Falls and Dolgeville schools.
A veteran of the United States Army he served honorably from September 1956 until he was discharged in March 0f 1959. He was with Company D 1st BG 10th Infantry Division and qualified as a sharpshooter with the M1 rifle.
His marriage to Mary Elizabeth Johnson took place on July 1, 1961. They recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Mike was employed by the former HP Snyder Company of Little Falls and also the former Daniel Green Shoe Company of Dolgeville.
His family was up most important to him along with Camping, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his children Cheryl (Orie) Foster of Little Falls, Brenda of Utica, Janet (Jeffery) DeRhonda of Florida, Michael Jodway Jr. Stratford, Mark Jodway of Gloversville, Edward (Marlene) Jodway of Stratford, Nancy Keba and fiancée James Bubbins of Caroga Lake, 20 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Edgar and Bernard Jodway and a sister Mavis Rumrill.

Little Falls/Clifton Park: Mrs. Anna (Woroby) Murphy, age 87, of Clifton Park, NY and a former Little Falls resident, passed away on Wednesday evening, August 14, 2013 at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home, Clifton Park, NY.
Mrs. Murphy was born on March 22, 1926 in Remsen, NY, daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Kapura) Woroby. She received her education in Mohawk schools. On September 12, 1942, she married Michael L. Murphy, and together they shared almost 65 years of devoted marriage until his passing on May 6, 2007. Anna spent her life raising her family, keeping her home, and assisting her husband with their farm, the East Creek Dairy Farm in the town of Manheim. She has lived in the Albany area since 1983.

Ovedovitz and his wife Donnelly of Alexandria, VA, Caroline Rostkowski and her husband Kenneth of Highland Mills, NY; great-grandchildren, Blake and Ava Rostkowski; step-grandchildren, Nancy Ovedovitz, Vicky Wilson and her husband Michael, and Donna Ritz and her husband Peter; a brother, Edward Woroby of St. Johnsville; and in-laws, Edward and Nancy Murphy of Ilion. She was predeceased by sisters Ola Gudzy, Mary Werbovetz, and Nina Ucasz; brothers, Alexander Woroby and Peter Woroby, and a son-in-law, Irving Ovedovitz; and several in-laws.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, August 17, 2013, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls. Her funeral will immediately follow at Noon, also at the funeral home. We will then process to Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Michael.

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mrs. Cheryl Nellis, age 56, of the Palatine Church Road, Fort Plain, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening August 17, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare Center, Cooperstown, NY with the comfort of her beloved husband Larry and family at her side.

Cheryl L. Nellis
ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mrs. Cheryl Nellis, age 56, of Palatine Church Road, Fort Plain, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, August 17, 2013, in Bassett Healthcare Center, Cooperstown, NY, with the comfort of her beloved husband Larry and family at her side.
Cheryl was born on April 18, 1957 in Gloversville, a daughter of the late Sherwood and Shirley (Young) Abel. She was a graduate of Johnstown schools and attended Fulton-Montgomery County Community College. She and Larry R. Nellis were married in 1977, and together enjoyed a loving and devoted union of nearly 37 years,
She was employed with Kasson & Keller in Fonda, NY. Cheryl was a member of the Reformed Church.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Larry; a son, Thomas, of Fort Plain; daughters, Elizabeth “Liz” Bailey and her husband Michael of St. Johnsville, and Debra Sherwood and her husband Jeremy of Abilene, TX; and adored grandchildren, Georgia and Eric Bailey, and Kelton, Christopher and Mallory Sherwood. She is also survived by her beloved pets, Smokey, Hunter, and Remmy. She also leaves her brothers, John Abel of Johnstown, Robert and wife Sharon Abel of Florida, William and wife Cathi Abel, Kevin Abel, and a sister Patricia Smith, all of Johnstown, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, Sherwood and Shirley Abel.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown for the excellent care and kindness extended to Cheryl during her illness. Frances Mlekoday
HERKIMER: Frances Mlekoday, 88, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of her family.
Born in Little Falls, NY on February 12, 1925, Frances was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Malinowski) Witkowski. She was raised and educated locally. On August 2, 1946 she was united in marriage to Joseph Mlekoday in St. Joseph’s Church, Richfield Springs, sharing 44 years of love and respect until his passing in January of 1991.
Frances enjoyed being a homemaker, and providing for her family at home was the source of strength and comfort to her. She was a loving mother and an adored grandmother; playing cards with her granddaughters being one of her favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and had a great admiration for flowers. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones. Frances was a member of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church, Herkimer.
She is survived by her beloved son, Joseph Mlekoday and wife Barbara of Herkimer; her cherished granddaughters, Helen and Marianne Mlekoday of Herkimer; her brothers, William Witkowski of Rochester, Charles Witkowski of Palatine Bridge, Stanley Witkowski of Herkimer, John Witkowski and special friend Peg Singer of Tucson, AZ; along with her sisters, Clara Sarafin and husband John of Herkimer, and Stephanie Greseck and her husband Stanley of Richfield Springs. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Helen Witkowski of Orlando, FL, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Witkowski, and sisters, Julia Smagalski, Stella Witkowski, and Edna Orcheski.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011. Jodi P. Willett
LITTLE FALLS-ILION – Jodi P. Willett, 33, of Inghams Mills Rd., Little Falls, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 19, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, as a result of an automobile-motorcycle accident.
He was born on August 1, 1980, in Ilion, the son of Charles L. Humphreville and Janice Willett. On June 30, 2001, he was married to Betty Walrath in Cold Brook, NY. Jodi was employed as a truck driver for Paul’s Provisions, Utica, for the past six years. He was a member of the Salisbury Ridgerunner Snowmobile Club.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; his children, Tyler, Chloe and Madisyn; his father, Chuck Humphreville and his wife, Eileen, of Ilion; his mother, Janice Willett, of Ilion; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbara and Harold Walrath, of Cold Brook; his sisters, Tina Tucker and her husband, Art, of Ilion, and Tracy Clemons; his brothers, Chuck Humphreville, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of West Winfield, Steven Humphreville, of Newport, Lewis Humphreville, of Poland, and Troy Clemons; His brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold Walrath, III and his wife, Amanda, of Little Falls, and Susan Pope and her husband, Aaron, of Poland; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2013, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating.
Calling hours are 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2013, prior to the funeral home service.
