Munger, World War II Veteran, age 95 has peacefully passed away on Thursday evening the 11th of September, 2014 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY. He was constantly surrounded with family love throughout his brief illness. VAN HORNESVILLE-SPRINGFIELD CENTER – DeAnne Jungkind, age 72, of Koenig Rd., Van Hornesville (Springfield Center), passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2014, with her loving husband, Arnie and daughters, Laura and Kathy by her side. She was born on March 19, 1942 in Gouverneur, NY, the daughter of Charles and Wilma (Crandal) Hogue and graduated from Gouverneur High School, and attended Canton ATC. On June 8, 1963, she was married to Arnold “Arnie” A. Jungkind, in Gouverneur, NY. DeAnne’s love of Chinese culture extended through her teaching of Chinese water colors and Asian Cuisine. DeAnne and her husband owned and operated the Chinese Expressions in their home serving gourmet home cooked Chinese food for many years. Arnie and DeAnne enjoyed extensive traveling with family and friends. They were well known for their dancing talents. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, of Van Hornesville. Survivors include her husband, “Arnie”; her children, Laura Fassett and her husband, David, of New Woodstock, NY, and Kathryn O’Brien, of Albany, NY; her grandchildren, Jacquelyn O’Brien, Hayden Fassett, Marilyn O’Brien, and Garrett Fassett; her sister, Brenda Sipher and her husband, Paul, of Watertown; her brother, Charlie Hogue and his wife, Pattie, of Gouverneur, Martin Hogue and his wife, Diane, of Inverness, Florida, Kevin Hogue and his wife, Sarah, of Cicero, NY, and Brian Hogue, of Watertown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents. Funeral services will be held 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened location at 102 West St., Ilion (315-895-7722), with Rev. Joelle Faulks, Pastor of the United Methodist Church of Van Hornesville, officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday, September 16, 2014, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. prior to the funeral home service. ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mrs. Sherrie Lee (Peterson) Oord, age 72, of 19 Church Street, St. Johnsville, NY, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Sunday morning September 14, 2014. She was blessed with her loving husband Durk at her side. She was born on May 15, 1942 in Gloversville, NY a daughter of the late Burton Wheeler and Elaine (Young) Peterson. She attended and graduated from Mayfield schools and went attend to attend some college curriculum with post graduate studies in a secretarial schooling setting. She worked in her career at Nichols in Gloversville and served as a bank teller and legal secretary. On August 1, 1993 she joined in marriage with Durk Oord in the Tribes Hill area of Amsterdam. Sherrie Lee just loved to crochet and was so kind and generous to have taken care of many thankful people throughout her lifetime. She is survived by her husband Durk; her son Christopher S. Simonds of Gloversville; grandchildren: Robie Simonds and his wife Katie, Justin, Catie and Tyler Simonds; a step son Ken Simonds; a brother Mark S. Peterson and his wife Garnet of Washington State; Durk’s children: Jody, Brenda, Lucas, and Rachael; her “just like a daughter:” Angelica Marrero of St. Johnsville; 25 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many special friends. LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Patricia R. (Weaver) Lynch, age 89, a longtime resident of Little Falls, passed away with her loving family at her side on Wednesday evening September 17, 2014 at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. She was born on February 28, 1925 in Herkimer, NY a daughter of the late Leon Milton & Rose Catherine (Mulligan) Coffin, Sr. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy. She was married to Chandler Rowley and then to Bernard Weaver both who preceded her in death. She was also married to Raymond Lynch who also passed away. Patricia was a World War II Veteran and served as an ambulance driver in the US Army. She was last employed at Little Falls Hospital as an OT assistant with the skilled nursing facility. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish. Patricia was blessed to be a part of five living generations of family. She is survived by her children: Barry Rowley and wife Donna of Ilion, Daniel Rowley and wife Gail of Salisbury, Debra Cook and her significant other Mario Trippodo of Fort Plain, Linda Rowley of Little Falls, and Bernie Weaver and significant other Robin Gay of Ilion; a sister in law Nancy Coffin of Little Falls; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces nephews and cousins. She was the last and youngest of nine siblings, all who have passed away including Leon, Jr., Norman, Ed and John Coffin and Frances Coffin, Marguerite Liddon, Alice Silvernail, Elizabeth Horgan and Ida Raak. Mrs. Pauline T. DeDomenick 96 a resident of the Brooklyn Household of the Masonic Care Community, Utica, formerly of 9 West Faville Avenue Dolgeville, died Saturday evening September 20th, 2014 at the Masonic Home. She was born in Utica, New York on March 24, 1918 the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (DeLorenzo) Giannico. She received her education at Brandegee School and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Upon graduating she then entered into hairdressing that she continued until her retirement in 1983. In 1940 she was sent to Toledo, Ohio by her company, to teach hairdressing for a period of months, returning to the former Boston Store where she worked until its closing. She also managed the beauty salon for the government at the Rhodes Military Hospital where the current St. Lukes Hospital now stands. Pauline was united in marriage to John DeDomenick on April 13, 1943 in St. Agnes church in Utica. He predeceased her on April 16, 1972. Upon his return from the service they purchased the Halfway House Restaurant between Dolgeville and Little Falls, along with the Keyser House Restaurant on Main Street in St. Johnsville. When they both retired from there she opened Pauline’s Beauty Salon on Main Street in Dolgeville retiring in 1983. She is survived by her sons and their wives Arthur and Mary Ellen DeDomenick of Dolgeville, Frank and Tracy DeDomenick of Myrtle Beach , South Carolina, a Granddaughter Gina Marie and her husband Jeff Munger of Florida, Two great Grandsons Joshua and Zachary Munger, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Patsy and Arthur and a sister Antoinette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at 9:00 Am at St. Joseph’s Church Helmer Avenue Dolgeville. Rev. Quy N. Vo, Pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in ST. Mary’s Cemetery, East Herkimer. There are No calling hours, however Friends are invited to attend her Mass on Wednesday morning. Memorials may be sent to the Masonic Care Community 2150 Bleecker Street Utica, NY 13501. ILION – Mr. Edward Paul Murphy, age 76, of Ilion, NY, passed away on Saturday evening September 20, 2014 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. Surrounded with the love and support of his family, Ed entered peacefully into the Lord’s arms after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The family is grateful for the excellent care offered by the Valley Health Services and for Dr. Atul Butala and his staff. Edward was born in Mohawk on April 13, 1938 to parents Caroline (Rathbun) Murphy and John Murphy. Ed was a proud athlete and graduated with Mohawk Central School ‘Class of 1956.’ He entered into the United States Army in 1960 and had served overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1962. On May 25th, 1968, Ed married the love of his life, Nancy Ligoski at St. Joseph’s Church in Herkimer with Rev. Vincent A. Nowak officiating. Their 46 years together were filled with devotion, laughter, unconditional love, and countless memories. Ed worked very hard throughout his career achieving employment with Univac for 17 years and then the Herkimer County Office building for 28 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Church of Annunciation, Ilion, as well as the Herkimer Elk’s Lodge BPOE #1439 and the Mohawk American Legion Crowley Barnum Post #25. Ed, fondly known as “Murph,” was a man of faith and compassion. His kind, gentle spirit and selfless nature inspired all of those whom he touched. He was a loyal husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, and the best uncle, cousin and friend that one could ever hope to have. His sense of humor and his generosity are irreplaceable. Even though the memories are endless, his absence will be immense. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Nancy; his children: Anne Lynn Murphy – Scalise and her husband Gino of Ilion, and Daniel Edward Murphy of Ilion; grandchildren: Brynna Caroline Scalise, Vincenzo Edward Scalise, and Kaydence Marie Murphy; a brother – in – law: Dr. Arthur M. Ligoske and wife Lois of Alexandria, Virginia; along with many nieces, nephews, great and great – great nieces and nephews each and every one of which he had a special bond with and dearly loved. His predeceased relatives are inclusive to his parents, his siblings brothers and their wives Francis (Mary), Fred (Harriet), Michael (Ann), John (Shirley), and Robert (Julia), sisters and their husbands Margaret Thomes (Howard), Anne McGraw (Arthur), and Helen White (Charles “Jim”), and brothers – in – law: Donald and Richard Ligoski. Harry "Hat" H. Lewis

SCHUYLER-HERKIMER – Harry “Hat” H. Lewis, age 93, of Herkimer, formerly of E. Schuyler, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. He had been a resident of Folts Home since 2011. He was born on March 11, 1921, in Grandview, Iowa, the son of the late Harry McKinley Lewis and Lennie Howell Lewis. Harry was raised in Salina, Kansas. In November, 1939, at age 18, he enlisted in the US Marines in Denver, CO. He was trained as a sharp-shooter, marksman, truck driver and in heavy artillery. In 1940, he was assigned to the USS Colorado, (the only battleship afloat after Pearl Harbor). Harry participated in action at Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, Guam, and Marianas Island. He was wounded in action in July of 1944, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. Harry was married to Doris Mosseau on October 20, 1945, in San Diego, CA. They made their home in Ilion for many years and then moved to E. Schuyler. Harry joined the Ilion Special Police for a short time, sold Kirby vacuums, worked in Sperry Rand Univac, and retired from MDS in Herkimer. Harry loved to fish, hunt, play golf and bowl for many years. He was also an avid reader. Mr. Lewis was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League and played cards at the VFW with his buddy Arnie Riggs and friends. He enjoyed watching football and was a Bronco’s fan. For years he loved reading Louis L’Amore western novels. Harry was nicknamed “Hat” as he wore a black felt hat for years. He would often greet people with a tip of his hat, and say: “The hat is just an old one, but yet it’s kind of rare. He wears the “hat” to hide the fact he hasn’t any hair. And when he goes a callen, the “hat” is sure to go, for Harry is my name that everyone should know” Survivors include his wife, Doris Lewis; two daughters, Marsha Madar and her husband, Larry, of Ilion, and Robin Benson and her husband, Paul, of Houston, TX; two sons, Rodney Lewis and his wife, Donna, of Vacaville, CA, and Brett lewis, of Lee Center; a special daughter-in-law, Jaymie Lewis, of Mohawk; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Nancy Stefanec, of Richfield Springs; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Gene Lewis; and his sister, Sue Ann Seng. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2014, at the Folts Home Chapel on the second floor, 104 N. Washington St., Herkimer, with Rev. Denise Bowen, Chaplain, officiating. The Marine Corps League will also conduct its service, including Taps. In keeping with Harry’s wishes, there are no scheduled calling hours. ILION-MOHAWK – Robert “Bob” S. Crossway, age 67, of W. Main St., Mohawk, formerly of Ilion, passed away peacefully, at home, on Sunday, September 28, 2014, with his loving family by his side. He was born on April 2, 1947, in Ilion, the son of Robert Crossway and Alice (Gregg) Crossway. Bob graduated from Ilion Central High School in 1965 and MVCC, receiving an Associate Degree in Business Administration. At one time, he was married to Angela Terzo. He later married Josephine Alabastro. Throughout his life, Bob had always been strongly involved in music. In his early years, he played with the Troubadours and the Magnificent Yankees. In 1964, he founded “The Mersey Side 5” Band with Bruce Ward, Bill Ortlieb, Gregg VanValkenburg and Gary Rigo, performing on the Hank Brown Show and throughout the Northeast winning the Battle of the Bands at Three Rivers Inn, Syracuse. First touring with the “Dick Clark Caravan Stars” in 1965, Bob went on to perform with such great groups as “The Shadows of Night”, “The Manhattans” and several other regional and national acts, performing as bassist, keyboardist or trombonist. He later founded the musical group “Soul Injection” and was actively involved for sixteen years retiring due to medical reasons. At one time, Bob lived in Tonawanda and was employed in management at the John Hancock Insurance Co. He was also actively involved in the family business “Crossway Tavern” in Ilion for many years. Survivors include his children, James Crossway, with whom he resided in Mohawk, Renee Fultz and her husband, Donald, of Laurelton, PA, Jennifer Crossway-Warner and her husband, Jay, of Ilion, Tiffany Brown and her husband, Dan, of Herkimer, Robert Brandon Crossway and his wife, Vicki, of Harrisburg, VA, and Melody Crossway, of Winchester, VA; twenty-four grandchildren, Kimberly, James, Alicia and Joseph, Jamie, Christina, Kara, Jerica, Jordan, Tony and Lauren, Derik, Brianna, Jennifer, Steffen and Amy, Althea, Amelia and Arlo, Jasmine, Jaysen, London, Ezra and Jonah; his sister, Debra “Debi” (Crossway) Teutsch and her husband, Rob, of Ft. Washington, MD; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice Crossway and Robert N. Crossway. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened location at 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Robert Wollaber, Pastor of the Ilion Morning Star United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery on the family lot. MOHAWK – Mr. Warren P. “Bud” Vrooman, age 71, of Mohawk, NY, passed away on Sunday morning September 28, 2014. Bud’s death followed a brief illness and occurred on the 2nd floor of the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center in Ilion, NY. Bud was a kind and gentle man. He was born on September 18, 1943 in New York City a son of the late Dr. Vernon P. and Erminia E. (Volpe) Vrooman. He was a graduate of Shaker High School in Latham, NY. Bud lived in Mohawk since 1993 and worked with Hummel’s Office Plus in Mohawk as an assembler. He is survived by his sister Lynne Hollander and her husband David of Bristol, TN; his uncle Ronald Volpe of Ohio; and his aunt Mary Vrooman of Herkimer. Bud’s sister Lynne and family are grateful to his neighbors and friends for the support through the years. Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort). After the service burial will take place in Mohawk Cemetery, John Street entrance. There are no calling hours. ILION – Mrs. Janny “Chris” Leary, age 81, of 102 Manhattan Avenue, Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort), passed away peacefully on Sunday morning September 28, 2014. She was surrounded with family love and her death occurred on the fourth floor of the Folts Homes, Herkimer. She was born on November 14, 1932 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, a daughter of the late Willem Oudgert Maas and Jansje (Vander Pas) Maas. She graduated from schooling in the Netherlands. Her marriage to William E. Leary took place on July 17, 1954 in Amsterdam, following which the couple moved to the United States. Mr. Leary passed away in March, 2006. Her loving family survives: daughter Maria Daz and husband Matthew of Ilion and their daughter Amber Daz (granddaughter); and her son Tadd Leary and his wife Annette of Colorado. Her funeral arrangements are with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort) under the direction of Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea (315) 894-8000. ILION – Nancy C. DeRusso, age 73, of London Towers, Ilion, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, with her family by her side.
