MOHAWK-SCHUYLER: Cheryl A. (Oldfield) Jackson, 43, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 with the love and support of her family by her side.
Born in Herkimer, NY on October 7, 1970, Cheryl is the daughter of Rosemary E. (Marmet) View and Daniel H. Oldfield. She was a Graduate of Mohawk High School and had attended SUNY Canton. Her marriage to Thomas Jackson took place in March 2013 in the Town of Little Falls.
Cheryl had currently been employed as a senior trade specialist for the Bank of NY Melon in Oriskany. She also was the proud owner and founder of Dips, Drinks and Other Delights Spice Business; a business that she had found much enjoyment in. She was a member of the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary and loved and appreciated her Irish Heritage, as well as Irish music. In her spare time she loved to camp and travel to Maine and Vermont. She appreciated her friends and family and nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with them.
She is survived by her husband Thomas; her parents, Rosemary Elizabeth View and Edward View, Jr. of Mohawk and Daniel and Louise Oldfield of Fairfield; her grandmother, Patricia Oldfield; her stepson, Timothy Mantell and wife Nicole of Canastota; her stepdaughter, Sierra Jackson and family of Canastota; a stepbrother, Edward View III and wife Erin of Herkimer, Patrick View and wife Kellie of Mohawk, Scott View and wife Danielle of Alexandria, VA; a stepsister, Bonnie Muffett and husband Ron of Ilion; a half-sister, Amy Jo Oldfield and a half-brother, Daniel Oldfield both of Fairfield. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins; aunts and uncles, including special aunts and uncles, Kathleen Moynihan and husband David, Kenneth Marmet, James Marmet and wife Eva, as well as a special friend, Donna Kinney and her loving canine companion, Copper.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff of the Herkimer Bassett Oncology Department, Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as MOVAC for their care and compassion shown to Cheryl during her illness.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort). Procession will follow to Mohawk Cemetery, John St., Mohawk, where she will be laid to rest. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

John A. McGowan
HERKIMER: John A. McGowan, 59, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Little Falls Hospital.
Born in Little Falls, NY on September 3, 1954, John was the son of the late Berton J. and Alice (Sweet) McGowan. Raised and educated locally, he continued his education receiving an Associate’s Degree in Business. John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1972 to 1992, serving 20 years and 29 days for our country. On January 19, 1991, John was united in marriage to the former Patricia LaVeck.
John had worked as a Cardiology Tech II for Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his lawnmower, loved electronics and loved to play guitar. John was a member of the Life Point Church, NY Mills.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Trish); his daughters, Michelle, Melissa, Breanne and Bethany McGowan; a son, Jason McGowan; a sister, Dawn Ackroyd and husband William; his brothers, Donald McGowan and wife Lisa, David McGowan and wife Roseann, James McGowan and wife Nancy and a beloved grandson, Jonathan Eli McGowan. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws, including a sister-in-law, Christine Hawkins and husband Rick. He also leaves his beloved canines, Maurice and Stacey.
He is predeceased by his mother and father and a sister, Alice McGowan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 3 PM at The Life Point Church, 74 Whitesboro Street, Yorkville, NY 13502. Full military honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the service.

Leah Ruth Carter
MOHAWK – Leah Ruth Carter, age 62, of Shoemaker Rd., Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2014, at home.
She was born on June 1, 1952 in Ilion, the daughter of Attorney Paul N. Carter and Taimi Hanikat Carter. Leah graduated from Mohawk High School class of 1970 and received a B.S. from Springfield College, Springfield, MA in 1974. Miss Carter graduated from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV in 1991 with a Masters Degree in sports and exercise studies, and HCCC receiving an AAS (Paralegal). At one time, Leah was employed as a computer operator at Walmart Distribution Center, Marcy, NY.
Survivors include her niece, Jessica Marie Carter, of Glendale, AZ. She was predeceased by her parents, Attorney Paul Carter and Taimi Carter; brothers, Scott and John Carter; and aunt, Ruth Hok.
Leah, through the years, amassed an extended family of friends in the Mohawk Valley. She was generous with her time and talent to each of them and their lives have been enriched as a result of her friendship and generous nature.
In keeping with Leah’s wishes, there are no scheduled calling hours or funeral services.

Margaret R. Stutey
ST. JOHNSVILLE – Margaret R. Stutey, age 77 of St. Johnsville, NY passed away suddenly on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Little Falls Hospital.
Born in Manhattan, NY on April 1, 1937, Margaret was the daughter of the late Harold and Ann (Richards) Stutey. She had been attending the Oppenheim Day Program and has been living in the Lexington Home since 1991.
Margaret was loved by everyone who knew her and appreciated the attention. She always wanted to look nice, having her make-up on, her nails done and wearing jewelry. She was referred to as the “Hat Woman”, as she loved to wear hats. Shopping was her favorite pastime.
She is survived by her friends and family at the Bacon Brook IRA and will be sadly missed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 11 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville. Margaret’s funeral service will commence immediately upon the conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place at Dolgeville Cemetery.

Theodore "Ted" Werenczak
MOHAWK - Theodore “Ted” Werenczak, age 93, of Mason Rd., Mohawk (German Flatts), passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, August 24, 2014, at the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion.
A lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, Theodore was born on September 17, 1920, and was the eldest son to the late Paul and Mary (Kasperowicz) Werenczak. He was a graduate of Mohawk High School with the Class of 1938, where he majored in music. Ted was wed to the former Lois Hoyle in 1964 and the two shared sixteen years until her untimely passing in 1980. In 1986, he shared in a second marriage to Ellen (Lincoln) Grainger, who also predeceased him in 1999. Ted was a good and loyal husband to each of his wives, and he always held their memory close to his heart.
For many years, Ted worked alongside his brother, Ed, on their family dairy farm on Mason Road. After which, Ted went to work as a machinist for Chicago Pneumatic, a position from which he retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed sports, fishing and polka. He was also an accomplished musician who played both the violin and accordion.
Theodore lived a good, long life and was a dedicated family man. Helpful and dependable by nature, he was always there for his siblings, nieces and nephews, never missing an important event. He was a faithful parishioner and, at one time, an usher, at the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion.
Ted is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Edward J. and Joan Werenczak, of Mohawk; his sister, Pauline Dawley, of Herkimer; nieces and nephews, Edward P. Werenczak and Michael Werenczak and his wife, Denise, all of Mohawk, Cathleen Caringi and her husband, Jeff, of Broadalbin, NY, and Amy Campanella and her husband, Michael, of Florida. He also leaves his great-nieces, great-nephews and a special friend and neighbor, Phil Laubenstein, who Ted enjoyed daily trips to McDonald’s with for his favorite french fries. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Werenczak, and brother-in-law, James Dawley.
Ted’s funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened location at 102 West Street, Ilion, and 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral home service.

Shirley A. Sanders
Frankfort- Shirley A. Sanders 79, a long time Frankfort area resident passed away Tuesday August 26, 2014 at the Folts Home with her loving family at her side. She was born March 12, 1935 in Ilion NY, the daughter of the late Claude & Myrtle Hadcox Bunce. Most of her life was spent in Frankfort area as well as Orlando Florida.
Her marriage to Richard (Al) Sanders took place April 24, 1954 at the Cedar Lake Methodist Church. Mr. Sanders passed away February 3, 2013. In keeping with their wishes Al and Shirley will be laid to rest together on Friday August 29, 2014 at the Entwistle Family Cemetery, Case Road, Town of Litchfield.
Shirley loved reading, cooking and found great enjoyment feeding and caring for the birds and other animals that lived outside her country home. She also appreciated and enjoyed doing family genealogy with her sister Sherrie. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Mrs. Sanders was a member of the Herkimer County Historical Society and at one time had worked at Three Maples Rest Home on Route 5s.
Survivors include a son Randy Sanders & wife Susan of Town of Litchfield, a daughter Laurie Sanders Abbott of Orlando, Fl; 4 brothers; Richard Bunce & wife June; Curtis Bunce & wife Dorothy; Frederick Sterling & wife Donna all of West Winfield; Ronald Bunce & wife Betty of Frankfort; one sister Sharon (Sherrie) Rolchigo and husband Joseph of Schuyler. She also is survived by her grandchildren Daryl Sanders & wife Tina; Bridgette Sanders; Amy Sanders & Derek Meka; Melissa Mickenheim & husband Patrick (Tanner); and Stephanie Abbott; great grandchildren Dakota and Brielle, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters Sandy Combs & Helen Edwards.

Carmen Hawks
Carmen Hawks 68 a resident of the Lexington Center 218 Keyser Lake Road Dolgeville, died unexpectedly Wednesday August 27, 2014 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
Carmen was born in Harlem, New York on October 24, 1945 the son of the late Benjamin and Carmen (Burnell) Hawks. He has been a resident at Lexington since 1992.
Carmen was a member and volunteer at the New Hope Christian Fellowship Church on Spencer Street Dolgeville for many years. He was always involved in fund raising programs for the church including the “Bike Safety Program”, the “Adopt a Child Program at Christmas Time”, along with assisting at Boy Scout meetings. His cheerful personality and wits always kept the staff at Lexington on their toes.
He is survived by his friends and family at the Keyser Lake facility.
Services and calling hours will be held on Tuesday September 2nd, 2014 starting at 11AM at the New Hope Christian Fellowship Church 32 Spencer Street Dolgeville. A service will begin at Noon at the church. Burial will follow in the Dolgeville Cemetery.

Adam Spadea
Herkimer- Adam Spadea 87 of Herkimer, NY passed away Wednesday August 27, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born April 17, 1927 in Gasperina, Italy the son of the late Joseph and Maria Macrina Spadea. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School and lived most of his life in Herkimer.
His marriage to Jeanne Salvione took place on May 10, 1953 at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Gloversville, NY. Mr. Spadea was a US Navy Veteran serving our country from May 3, 1945 to August 9, 1946. Adam had been employed for the New York State Thruway and also had formerly been a TV repair man for many years. He had a keen sense of humor and was known to have a good joke or listen to one. Family was a utmost priority in his life.
Surviving are his wife Jeanne; 2 daughters Nancy Hand & husband Jerry of Herkimer; Lisa Mahoney of Charleston, SC, 5 grandchildren: Jordan & wife Elizabeth Hand; Tyler Hand; Jerica Hand; Lesley & Leah Cioch; nephew Joseph Spadea and his wife Johann; and niece Mary Nikurs, and cousins. He also leaves his in-laws Carole Girard; Alan Salvione & wife Muriel; Paul Salvione & wife Ellen and close friend Anthony (Tony) Annotto. Adam was predeceased by two brothers: Sam & Dominick.

Kim David Holden
ILION – Kim David Holden, age 59, formerly of Ilion and Minnesota, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014, at Focus Rehabilitation Center, Utica.
He was born on April 9, 1955, in Ilion, the son of LaVal and Leona (Trevor) Holden. Kim graduated from Ilion High School in 1973 and SUNY Canton. At one time, he was married to Deborah Gay. Mr. Holden was employed as a draft engineer at Library Bureau, Herkimer, for 25 years, and later for Jones Library Sales in Carlisle, Iowa, for 10 years. Kim was a member of the Ilion Elks Lodge #1444 and a former member of the Ilion Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his mother, Leona Holden, of Herkimer; his daughter, Candace Gage and her husband, Charlie, of Newport; his son, Justin Holden and Summer Holden, of Ilion; nine grandchildren, Kyleigh, Kadence and Kendra Gage, and Andrew, Mason, Lium, Briar, Autumn and Aubrey Holden; his two brothers, Butch Holden and his wife, Sue, of Florida, and Scott Holden and his wife, Lois, of Preble, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a close friend, Carrie Vukelich, of Minnesota.
He was predeceased by his father, LaVal, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

John M. Campbell
ILION – The Lord of all received the gentlest of souls, John Morrison Campbell, into his eternal home and the welcoming arms of his loved ones who had long awaited him on Monday morning September 8, 2014. John had a keen wit, was always loyal and loving to his family and friends, a real gentleman who read veraciously throughout his life. He has been under the care of the Forestport Household in the Masonic Care Community of Utica, NY since October 18, 2013 until his passing. Previous to that he lived at Forge Hill Estates in Ilion and Acacia Village in Utica, NY.
John was born January 19, 1926 in Watertown, NY. He was the only son of Mabel Prosser Campbell and John R. Campbell. John’s dad was born September 9, 1892 in Basswood Ridge, New Brunswick Canada and went to his eternal home March 19, 1957. John’s father was a member of Masonic Lodge 49, F. & A.M. in Watertown, NY. His Mother was born in Cardinal Ontario January 6, 1903 and the Lord took her soul home June 15, 1978.
John Morrison graduated from Watertown High School and immediately served in the United States Army 331st Field Artillery in the South Pacific from 1944 until 1946. He then got his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Babson College in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts. He married Madge Bidwell on December 25, 1951 and they settled in the Mohawk Valley in 1952. He retired after 32 years of dedicated service as a Time Study and Methods Engineer with Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in Utica in 1985.
He is survived by his loving wife Madge and two sons, John R. and wife Paula Campbell from Ione, California; and Scot M. Campbell from Somerville, MA; a granddaughter Carolee Graves; a great grandson Evan John Graves; ex-daughter in law: Deborah Foley; plus many in laws. Also special friends Ray Crowther of Utica, Ruth and Gene Blaise from Herkimer, and Frank and Marie Marsden of Rochester whose friendship to him during his life and illness will always be remembered.
According to John’s wishes there will be no calling hours. Lillie Irene Carter 89 of 9 Spencer Street, Dolgeville, went to be with her Lord Wednesday evening September 10th, 2014 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown where she had been a patient since August 17th. At the time of her passing she was comforted with the love and support of her daughter and son in law at her side, and her companion and best friend “Pip”.
Lil, as she was known, was born in the Town of Keevil, Arkansas on June 20, 1925 the daughter of Arthur and Dolly Young who loved and adored her. Her paternal parents were William and Lilly (Sheffield) Rice.
She came to this area in 1953 where she was first employed by the General Electric Company of Utica, where she served as a shop steward until their closing many years ago. She then was employed by the Dolgeville Central School as a bus driver for many years. While driving bus she earned the respect of all of the students and many would recall their riding on her bus throughout the years.
Lil was a devout Christian by faith. Along with the love of the outdoors, she enjoyed camping, fishing, singing and playing her guitar. While residing in Arkansas she was a member of the Women’s Quartet, singing at various locations. She will also be remembered by her softball team “Lil’s Angels” where she was the owner and coach for many years. She was an avid New York Yankees, Bills and Knicks fan.
She is survived by a son Donald Carter of Arkansas, a daughter and her husband Gloria and Jeff Luther of James Creek, PA, her companion and best friend Claire “Pip” Noonan with whom she lived, her grandchildren Joshua, Sarah, Caleb, Julie, Joann, Kenny, John, Christine, Donny, & Colleen, several great grandchildren, Nieces & Nephews. She was predeceased by a son John A. Carter on September 3, 1971, her brothers Bill, John, & Ed and a sister Lenabelle, and her faithful canine companion of 13 years “Teddy,” who passed away, while she was in the hospital.
Memorial services will be held on OCTOBER 4th, 2014 at 11 AM at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Burial will follow in the Dolgeville Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 AM until the time of the service.
