HERKIMER-MOHAWK-ILION – Carol A. Ashley, age 65, of Herkimer, formerly of Mohawk and Ilion, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY. She was born on January 21, 1949, in Plattsburg, the daughter of Stephen and Catherine (Boula) Martin and attended Ilion High School. On January 9, 2001, she was married to Floyd E. Ashley, in Herkimer. At one time, Carol was employed as a presser at Dulak Cleaners, Frankfort. She attended the Church of the Annunciation. Survivors include her husband, Floyd; her son, Jason McMahon and his wife, Sarah, of Ilion; her sisters, Kathleen Lee and her companion, Mike, Joyce Dennison and her husband, James, all of Herkimer; her brother, Walter Martin and his wife, Nellie Mae, of Utica; her step-children, Scott Ashley and his companion, Kim, of Herkimer, Randy Ashley, of Utica, Todd Palmer, of FL, Amy Edwards and her husband, Rick, of Fairfield, and Carrie Ashley, of Little Falls; nineteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; daughters, Shannon and Shelly; son, Edward; and grandchild, Sean. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Carol’s Memorial Service on Friday, March 21, 2014, at 5:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Genett Timlin, officiating. Spring burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. prior to the Memorial Service. He was a World War II Veteran having served with the United States Army – Air Force. MOHAWK - Mr. Frank R. Julian, age 91, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 19, 2014, at the Mohawk Homestead, Village of Mohawk, NY. He was a resident of Mohawk and a longtime Herkimer resident. Mr. Julian was born on May 20, 1922 in Herkimer a son of the late Rocco Joseph and Julia (Lorraine) Julian. He was educated in Herkimer schools and served our country with the United States Army. He was an ambulance driver overseas during World War II and was a decorated veteran. Frank last worked with General Electric in Utica as a security guard for 27 years. He married Viola Cherry on May 3, 1980. Mrs. Julian passed away January 16, 2003. The couple moved to Mohawk in 2002. He is survived by his sisters, Eleanor LaPorte, of Mohawk, and Dorothy Jakavenko and husband, Walter, of Tampa, FL; a nephew, Dennis; and a niece, Diane. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 25, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street Herkimer, NY and at 9:30 AM from the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street Herkimer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Terence Healy. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, with military honors. MOHAWK – Franklyn “Frank” C. Sweet, age 61, of Church St., Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, NY. He was born on March 3, 1953 in Little Falls, the son of George H. Sweet, Jr. and Shirley (Nichols) Sweet. A life long area resident, Frank graduated from Mohawk High School and BOCES specializing in heating and air conditioning. On May 19, 2007, he united in marriage with Irene Dibble, in Sauquoit. Mr. Sweet was employed at Mohawk Valley General Hospital for sixteen years and Herkimer Housing Authority for over ten years retiring in 2011. He was a member of the Three Steeples United Church and a twenty-five year member of the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Dept. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Irene; sons, Jason Sweet, Ilion, and Roger Marmet, Mohawk; daughter, Michele Szarek, Cold Brook; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shelley Johnson, Tavares, FL, Nadine and Charles Tripple, Michele Haire, Brenda and Raymond Reynolds, all of Mohawk, and Angela Sweet, Utica; sister-in-law, Joan and Larry Flike, Newport; aunt, Gloria and John Joyce, Frankfort; eleven grandchildren, Joshua Szarek and wife, Amy, Kimberley, Irene, Harley, Michael, Walter, Franklin and Rebekkah Szarek, and Joseph, Sara and Jonathan Marmet, Ilion; a great-grandson, Blake Szarek; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and his wives, Vanessa (Pierce) Sweet and Donna (DeForest) Sweet. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened location at 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Edward Townsend, Pastor of the Three Steeples United Church of Paris, NY, officiating. Spring interment will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls, NY. DOLGEVILLE – Mrs. Erma H. (Youngblut) Hoffman, age 93, of Oak Street, Dolgeville, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday morning March 22, 2014 with her husband Donald and daughter with her. She was born on January 1, 1921 in Dolgeville, a daughter of the late Robert and Naomi (Paatz) Youngblut. She was a graduate of Dolgeville High School, Class of 1940. Erma and Donald S. Hoffman shared in 73 years of marriage together. They were married on November 23, 1940 at the Universalist Church Parsonage in Dolgeville with Rev. Moulton officiating. At one time Erma worked at the Daniel Green gift shop in Dolgeville and was a member of the Eastern Star where she earned her way as Matron at one time. She is survived by her husband, Donald, at home; one son, Robert Hoffman and wife, Peggy, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; a daughter, Donna Gavin, of LeRoy, NY; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Naomi Youker and husband, Roy, of Dolgeville, NY. HERKIMER – Mr. Robert J. Doxtater, age 69, a native of the Mohawk Valley and currently of Picayune, Mississippi, passed away at his home on March 19, 2014. He was born on August 11, 1944 in Little Falls, a son of George Doxtater and Rosamond (Primmar) Doxtater. He was educated in Fort Plain schools. He served in the United States Navy Seabees for twenty years, retiring as a chief Petty officer. He is survived by his wife Peggy; his parents: George Doxtater of Willsboro, NY and Rosamond “Rosie” Doxtater of Herkimer; his children: Robert Doxtater, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Keuka Lake, NY, Randy Doxtater of Carriere, Mississippi (formerly of Oppenheim), and Melissa Adams of Picayune, Mississippi; his brothers: George Doxtater and his wife Ruth Ann of Oppenheim and Donald Doxtater of Ilion; his sisters: Joann Mason of Willsboro, NY and Helen DeMars and her husband Jake of Herkimer, seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. LITTLE FALLS – Jessica E. Bennett (Watson), age 33, of East Albany Street, Herkimer, NY went to be with the angels unexpectedly, on Wednesday morning, March 26, 2014, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY. While at Bassett there was wonderful care extended from the entire staff of the Intensive Care Unit. She has been constantly supported with love from her family and friends. She is the wife of Dale Bennett, Jr. They were married on June 2, 2011. She was born on July 1, 1980 daughter of Marsha (Deming) Watson in Little Falls, and attended St. Mary’s Academy and then Little Falls High School where she graduated with the Class of 1998. Jess worked as a clerk with Subway in Little Falls and at one time worked with Lexington Center in St. Johnsville. Jessica was excellent at drawing and had an amazing singing voice. Her greatest enjoyment was to be around her family and friends of who she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of three years, Dale Bennett, Jr.; her three children, Ethan, Calob, and Zoey; two grandmothers, Betty Deming, of Little Falls, and Diane Sawyer, of Herkimer; her mother, Marsha Watson and her husband, Hank Weckesser; three brothers, Jason and wife, Chandra, Joe and fiancée, Felicia, and Josh and wife, Lisa; a special uncle Roycie; In Laws, Father and mother in law, Dale, Sr. and Patty Bennett, mother in law, Julie and husband, Bill Husler; six sisters-in-law, Amanda and husband, Jeff, Lisa and fiancé, Kevin, Becky, Samantha and husband, Mark, Desiree and Renee; two brothers-in-law, Shane and companion, DD, and Steven and wife, Casandra; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her lifelong friend and ‘partner in crime’, Heather Miller Watson. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Joseph “Royce” Deming and her loving brother James “Jimmer” Watson. ILION – Mr. Kevin C. Stolark, 60, of Reno, NV., passed away on Nov. 9, 2014 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Ilion, N.Y., the son of Stanley and Monica (Gaffney) Stolark. He received a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California. He was a contract manager for several defense contractors including Raytheon and Hughes Aircraft. After retiring, he became a civilian employee at Beale Air Force Base in California, as a contract specialist. Mr. Stolark was a licensed ham-radio operator, was an avid student of history, and enjoyed collecting antiques and Lionel trains. He is survived by his sister, Colleen B. DeGouff, of Cortland, N.Y.; three nephews, Steven M. DeGouff (Cassandra), of Cortland, Michael T. DeGouff, of Whitesboro, N.Y., Jason D. DeGouff, of Cortland, a niece, Colleen D. DeGouff, of Cortland and a great nephew Daniel T. DeGouff of Cortland. There will be a service announced in Ilion, NY.
